Award for Excellence in Teaching
Brian Bowman
Brian Bowman is the recipient of the 2020 Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching for the College of Arts and Sciences at Campbell University.
Bowman, an Instructor of Communication Studies, earned a Master of Arts in Technology and Communication from UNC Chapel Hill’s School of Media and Journalism. In addition, he brings more than 20 years of professional experience to Campbell University including 12 years as an on-air reporter and 12 years in public relations.
Bowman began teaching in the College of Arts and Sciences as an adjunct instructor in 1997 and became a full-time instructor in 2016. Among his academic credentials and professional experience, Brian is especially proud of being a Campbell University alumnus. He earned the BA in Mass Communication from Campbell in 1991.
He wrote of his student experience, “The time in Buies Creek shaped my view of the world as much as the classes shaped my professional perspective. I graduated with confidence and high standards. The faculty that had the most significant influence on me invested themselves in my career as a student.”
Now, Bowman is investing his career to shape the lives of the next generation Campbell University students.
Bowman offers Communication Studies courses in modem media and production. He is active in Communication Studies curriculum development especial regarding new media. He helped secure a major upgrade of the recording studio from WTVD. Bowman has been a key player in the success of the Walter Barge Memorial Scholarship 5k and a leader in the Faculty Senate.
College of Arts & Sciences Associate Dean, Glenn Jonas, said, “He is one of the friendliest, most caring faculty members that we have here in the College of Arts and Sciences. Couple that with his professional expertise and you have the ingredients for a truly outstanding faculty member.”
