The Campbell University Dance Team (CUDT) is a scholarship collegiate level varsity dance team with many talented members devoted to promoting and encouraging school spirit and generating crowd involvement through game day performances for all home football games, men’s and women’s basketball games, and postseason tournaments. In addition, the dance team performs and attends many Campbell and Community events including Tartan and Orientation, Creek Madness, Homecoming Parade, Angier Crepe Myrtle Festival, and various other events each year.
Campbell dancers have attended the National Dance Alliance (NDA) camp sponsored by Varsity Spirit in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. At camp, dance team members learn new skills and grow as a team to best cheer for the camels in the upcoming sports season.
Auditions
Campbell University Dance Team members are chosen during a highly competitive audition process in early summer (May/June). Dancers complete a fitness evaluation, skills assessment, a solo and perform two routines for a panel of judges. The dance team hosts prep-clinics in the months leading up to auditions (high school seniors to college seniors),were those that attend learn one of the two routines taught at auditions, and get an inside scoop of what auditions look like, as well as, what being a member of the CUDT is all about.
After auditions, selected team members spend the summer learning routines and sidelines in preparation for the first game of the season, as well as hosts a summer intensive for high school dancers to prep themselves for the collegiate level. Team members are challenged to increase personal growth and development through the management of athletic and academic responsibilities, while developing good character, citizenship, and sportsmanship.
Dance Camp
The Campbell University Dance Team hosts dancers aged 5-18 for two dance camps in both the fall and the spring season. Dancers learn choreography from Campbell Dance Team members and perform the routine at either a home football or basketball game later the same day. Camp participants enjoy a day full of dancing and leave with a new Campbell dance T-shirt and lots of Campbell pride.
Alumni Day
Each year, the Campbell University Dance Team invites back their seasoned alumni to perform with current members of the team at a men’s or women’s basketball game in the spring. The day is full of fun, dancing and laughter as stories are traded back and forth with memories that alumni have cherished since being on the team. With the dedication of those before, it has allowed the Campbell University Dance Team to flourish into what it is today and what it will become in the future.
