Residence Hall Networks
- Residential students connect to the internet through our high speed broadband connections (wired and wireless) which are installed in all University residence rooms and through the wireless network in other parts of campus. You will need to have a network card in your computer and a CAT5 network cable to use the wired port in your room. No other equipment is required. Individual broadband accounts are not permitted.
- An updated subscription-based antivirus program is required on all residential student computers that use Microsoft’s Windows OS and is also highly recommended on other operating systems. Learn More About Antivirus Programs
- File sharing has, in the past, interfered with official University Business and valid educational endeavors and therefore, is not allowed at any time. Please delete file sharing/torrent programs on your machine before coming to campus.
- Students should check for and clean their computers of ” spyware/malware” before attempting to logon to the Campbell University network. There are several free tools available for spyware detection and removal. The helpdesk will be happy to assist with the installation and use of these tools. Learn More About Malware
- You must install all Critical, High Priority, and Recommended operating system updates on Windows-based machines. Additionally, your machine should be setup to check for updates automatically.
- Students are not allowed to have a personal wireless router or access point anywhere on the Campbell University campus. If a non-university owned wireless access point or router is discovered in your room, your network connection may be disabled for the remainder of the semester and the router/access point may be confiscated.
- Due to bandwidth concerns, the usage of some high bandwidth devices such as HD Streaming Video players may lead to the throttling back or limiting of bandwidth to individual students. The University Internet connection for the dorms is primarily for academic purposes and the usage of the network for non-academic purposes will be curtailed if it interferes with academic use.
Wireless Network
- Wireless is available in most buildings on campus and also available in selected outside areas.
- CUWireless is the default wireless network. Other University-maintained wireless networks are for specific uses and are not accessible by most users.
Maintenance
Information Technology Services reserves the right to perform routine network and server maintenance and updates on Sunday mornings from 6 a.m. through 1 p.m. Access to university servers and systems may be down for brief periods during this time.
