Jessica Boone

Department Chair, Accounting & Finance
Assistant Professor of Accounting
Dean’s Award for Excellence
Lundy-Fetterman School of Business

Professor Jessica Boone is the recipient of the 2024 Dean’s Award for Excellence for the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business.

Since arriving at Campbell, Boone has been instrumental in transforming the culture, reputation, and atmosphere of our accounting program through her engaging teaching approach, willingness to tutor students and obvious passion for students.

Accounting is sometimes considered a dry, practical major. Not in her classes.

Boone encourages students to view accounting as the backbone of analysis providing the foundation for quality  decisions on complex issues. Her classes are interactive, engaging and almost entertaining. She emphasizes and reinforces the holistic, interrelated nature of the material.

As a result of her teaching, students are involved with their learning, their major, and their professors. If you walk past her office on any given day, you will see  students sprawled out  seeking and receiving personal instruction from Boone. These gatherings have become legendary in the business school.

Boone models the professor/student learning dynamic faculty strive to create. She does so much more than provide information. She builds interests, offers encouragement, breaks down the material, insists on a work ethic, provides seemingly unlimited time and serves as a mentor.

Professor Boone provides leadership within the School of Business.

She reinvigorated the Accounting Club into the leading business school club. Students actively involve accounting professionals, alumni and faculty. Boone also assumed the role of chair of the Accounting and Finance Department this year. Her impact has already been felt through her ideas and energy.

Beyond her remarkable teaching and leadership, Boone serves as a mentor to many students. She offers respected advice, feedback and a personnel connection. She will meet in her office, off campus and on the phone. Students unable to go home for Thanksgiving have come to her house to celebrate. Boone truly supports her students in so many ways.

Boone embraces the faith-based mission of Campbell University and serves as a role model for her students. She also leads a small off-campus bible study open to all students.

Professor Jessica Boone is very deserving of the 2024 Dean’s Award for Excellence.
