Adult & Online Education | Brittany Bennett

From Dr. Beth Rubin, dean of Adult & Online Education:

Brittany Bennett is the winner of the 2022 Adult & Online Education Award for Excellence, for outstanding teaching and advising.

Ms. Bennett is a licensed teacher in the state of North Carolina, and taught in Johnston County Schools as well as other schools for more than nine years. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from UNC Wilmington, and her Masters degree in Education with a Reading Education Specialty from East Carolina University in 2007.

Ms. Bennett has been an adjunct faculty member for Campbell Online since 2016 and began providing academic advising support for Teacher Education students in August of 2019. Her teaching is very strong, earning her consistently positive student evaluations, as indicated by a recent student comment in response to the question, “What was your favorite part of the course”: “The instructor.”

Teacher Education at Campbell University follows state guidelines and requirements for eligibility of graduates to earn state teacher licensures, as well as special requirements dictated by CAEP (the accrediting body for teacher education programs). This creates special burdens that students and faculty in this curriculum must bear, making academic advising for this population extremely challenging.

When Ms. Bennett took on the role of advisor for these students, a noticeable improvement happened with our students. Dr. Chris Godwin, the Director of Teacher Education at the university, has expressed this many times, indicating his gratitude and delight at the professional and meticulous nature of Ms. Bennett’s advising. Students with complicated personal and academic backgrounds have been well served by her, and she has ensured their work complies with all programmatic assessment requirements for teacher education at Campbell. Dr. Al Bryant, the Dean of the School of education, offered this praise for Ms. Bennett:

Ms. Brittney Bennett is an asset to the School of Education’s Teacher Education Program. Her devotion to her students is evident in the positive feedback she receives from them. We are delighted to have her as part of our team.

Similarly, Dr. Chris Godwin had this to say about Brittany Bennett:

Mrs. Brittany Bennett epitomizes the effective educator. She is caring, empathetic, holds high expectations of her students, and builds relationships with these students to support them on their journey towards becoming professional educators! Her dedication to the Adult and Online Professional Education student goes well  beyond the virtual classroom, as well. She is a team player and reaches out to others to ensure a successful  journey for these future educators. We value Mrs. Bennett’s contribution to our team!

Ms. Bennett is a blessing to our students, AOE, and the University, and I am pleased to nominate her for this award.

Adult and Online Education is lucky and honored to have many fine professionals working among our adjunct faculty ranks. Among these outstanding colleagues, Ms. Bennett shines brightly. I am delighted and honored to give the 2022 Dean’s Award for Excellence to Ms. Brittany Bennett.
