Dr. Mac Wallace
Dr. Harold “Mac” Wallace, Senior Professor of Pastoral Care, is the 2021 recipient of the Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award for the Campbell University Divinity School.
Dr. Wallace joined the faculty of the Divinity School in 2005. Throughout the years his gentle, humble spirit, his ability to be present with people in the midst of difficult and painful circumstances, and his immense wisdom and insight have endeared him to students and colleagues alike.
His classes on pastoral care, counseling; chaplaincy, marriage, and family systems are favorites among students. His teaching and example have led many students to pursue CPE and chaplaincy.
Growing up in Smithfield, Dr. Wallace began his college education at Mt. Olive Junior College and completed his Bachelor of Arts at Duke University. He then earned his Master of Divinity, followed by his Doctor of Ministry, from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest. He became an ordained minister and pastored two churches as an undergraduate student, and then over the next 20+ years served in interim pastoral positions across North Carolina.
Dr. Wallace’s professional credentials span over 50 years, beginning as a Certified Chaplain Supervisor with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. (ACPE); Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, North Carolina Marriage and Family Therapy Licensure Board (NCLMFT); Approved Supervisor, American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT); Fellow of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors (AAPC); and CPE and Pastoral Psychotherapy Diplomate, College of Pastoral ·supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP).
He served as faculty for 22 years with the NC Baptist Hospital Department of Pastoral Care. He then moved to Wilmington in 1991 to become the first Director of the NC Baptist Hospital Counseling Center (CareNet). He has also served as Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisor at Nash Health Care Systems, Inc., Rocky Mount, NC; and Supervisor of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) with the Department of Spiritual Care at WakeMed Hospital, Raleigh, NC.
Dr. Wallace and his wife, Dr. Emma B. Wallace, maintain a private practice, SunDance Family Services, for psychotherapy and supervision in their home/office near Lexington, NC. They are the proud parents of four adult children and now five grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
It is with grateful appreciation that the Divinity School recognizes Dr. Mac Wallace for his steadfast and devoted efforts to Campbell University Divinity School and its students. We are proud to recognize him today, in truth not only for the 2021 Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, but for a lifetime of excellence in teaching, pastoral care, counseling, leadership and for his service to Campbell University Divinity School and its mission.
