Dr. Karlyn Green has been selected as the recipient of the 2024 Dean’s Award for Excellence in the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences.
Green earned a Bachelor of Science in exercise biology from the University of California-Davis and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2008 from Mount St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles. She is dual Board-certified in Cardiovascular and Pulmonary and Orthopaedic Physical Therapy and practiced at Duke University Hospital for 13 years. Prior to joining the Campbell Doctor of Physical Therapy program as a full-time faculty member, Green was an adjunct faculty member in several physical therapy programs, including at Campbell.
Green is the lead faculty member for cardiovascular and pulmonary patient management, along with hospital-based practice. Her involvement extends into teaching content in various threads of the DPT curriculum including tests and measures, pathophysiology, pharmacology, musculoskeletal practice, clinical anatomy, medical screening and clinical readiness. She is an outstanding educator who employs contemporary practice and evidence to craft learning experiences designed to facilitate a deeper understanding of content necessary for effective clinical practice. Her classroom sessions include real and simulated clinical practice scenarios that engage students with the content in a supportive and integrative manner.
Green serves community members in need as the faculty advisor for the PT Pro Bono Clinic and as a mentor for students in the PT Community Wellness Program. She is extensively involved in national organizations dedicated to advancing physical therapy’s impact. She is an active member of the Academy of Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Physical Therapy, serving on an expert panel developing standards for physical therapist education, item-writer for the board specialty examination, and nominating committee member for the executive board. In addition to her teaching and service, Green is passionate about research that influences the clinical management of patients with cardiovascular and pulmonary health conditions. She is involved in several ongoing projects that investigate the assessment and management of patients with heart failure.
Dr. Karlyn Green is an extraordinary teacher and an outstanding role model to faculty and students. Throughout all aspects of her work at Campbell, she consistently demonstrates the importance of continuous engagement with the profession, the evidence, and the community. She is a wonderful example of the qualities recognized by the Dean’s Award for Excellence for the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences.
