Holley Long
Metadata & Digital Initiatives Librarian
Ms. Holley Long, metadata and digital initiatives librarian at Wiggins Memorial Library, is the recipient of the 2023 Dean’s Award for Excellence for Campbell University Libraries. A member of the library faculty since August 2017, Ms. Long has excelled in her work as a metadata cataloger and digital initiatives librarian. Digitization projects such as CU FIND, the CU Photo Archives Project, and population of the library’ s digital collection are the primary focus of her work and are testament to her skill as a librarian.
Dedicated to professional development, Ms. Long studies best practices in digitization through organizations such as the Society of American Archivists and has implemented improved workflows for digital scanning in compliance with FADGI standards. In addition, she recently was awarded a grant for a DICE target to enhance the quality of scanned images.
Ever ready to improve upon the digital archives at Campbell University, Ms. Long has carefully explored systems for digital preservation such as Digital Commons, Islandora and DSpace. She shares her expertise in digitization practices with the library team through engaging demonstrations and with the wider library community through the NCICU Library Collaborative’s ASCA Affinity Group.
Colleagues enjoy collaborating with Holley on library initiatives such as the annual Academic Symposium. She selected this year’s keynote speaker, a paleontologist and professor on the forefront of citizen science research. She also streamlined the library’s judging review process for the Symposium making use of Google scripts to populate library forms for faculty reviewers.
Ms. Long supports her team and those across the University with genuine care and compassion, always willing to lend a helping hand.
It is with great appreciation that Campbell University Libraries proudly recognizes Holley Long as the recipient of the 2023 Dean’ s Award for Excellence for her outstanding efforts and dedicated service to the Campbell University community.
