Dr. Kate Lawrence
Associate Professor of Marketing
Dr. Kate Lawrence is the recipient of the 2023 Dean’s Award for Excellence for the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business.
Since arriving at Campbell, Dr. Lawrence connects with students through her engaging teaching, a willingness to mentor students, and an enthusiasm for her profession. Her recent course evaluations point to a faculty member who is accessible, interactive, caring, and dedicated to her students. Students gravitate to her openness, easy laugh, and strong commitment to the subject manner. She adroitly bridges rigor and passion in her classes.
Dr. Lawrence demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning. On her own initiative, she researched the exploding field of analytics in order to keep our students current in their chosen fields. Her analytics course is becoming more valuable to our graduates each year.
Dr. Lawrence champions integrating a global perspective into the LFSB curriculum. She is a strong advocate for studying abroad and has led multiple overseas courses. She challenges students to seek these potentially lifechanging experiences. Dr. Lawrence spearheads the LFSB’s annual Global Week efforts by working with a student committee to produce unique cultural and global business experiences. In fact, she often hosts students at her home where they dine on a global menu and enriching dialogue. Dr. Lawrence truly believes in developing the whole student through exposing students to new experiences and opportunities. She embraces student engagement.
In addition to her engaging courses and global focus, Dr. Lawrence promotes involvement beyond the classroom. She encourages participation in regional and national marketing competitions and serves as the faculty advisor. Last summer she led a group to the national AMA meeting in Chicago. Students interacted with prominent marketing professionals while also competing against teams from leading universities. These student-centered experiences provide lasting memories for the students. More importantly, students develop confidence by successfully navigating new, possibly uncomfortable, environments. The LFSB is only able to offer students these transformation experiences because faculty, like Dr. Lawrence, volunteer to lead them.
For all the reasons outlined above and more, Dr. Kate Lawrence is very deserving of the 2023 Dean’s Award for Excellence.
