Dr. Lillian MacNell
Dr. Lillian MacNell received her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Environmental Studies and her· Master of Arts in Applied Sociology from the University of Central Florida, and a PhD in Sociology from North Carolina State University.
MacNell joined Campbell University in July 2016 in the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences’ Public Health program. As a teacher, MacNell has taken on a substantial teaching load and serves an important role in curriculum development for the program.
She has developed courses including popular electives on nutrition and food security. Her courses are evaluated at a very high level by students, and her advising of student capstone projects often results in students presenting at conferences. She has been innovative in designing learning activities and assessments, exploring shared assignments, as well as creative immersive role plays.
In the area of education-related service, MacNell is a valuable and willing contributor to the department, the college, the university and to the broader community. Within the department, she has been asked to provide curricular leadership in a variety of areas as the department earned accreditation with the Council on Education for Public Health. She has also worked tirelessly to develop the curricular framework for the proposed Bachelor of Science in Public Health.
Within the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences, MacNell has been an important part of the Faculty Development Committee and the lnterprofessional Education {IPE) Committee, as well as providing leadership on a wide-range of IPE activities.
In a broader context, MacNell is a respected leader on issues of environmental justice and food justice in ways that embody the ethics of the program and the values of the coursework.
Dr. MacNell is a reliable, hardworking, effective, and inspiring educational leader. Students enjoy her classes, colleagues enjoy collaborating with her, and her intellect and work ethic have helped to transform the Public Health program’s approach to many aspects of teaching and learning. Her contributions to the Public Health program have been critical to the department’s success, and she exemplifies excellence in all that she brings to teaching. She is an exemplary example of the qualities recognized by the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching for the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences.
