The ever changing health care field demands increased interprofessional collaboration and practice to provide safe, patient-centered care. If practitioners are expected to function in an interprofessional practice, then schools and colleges must provide their students with the skills needed through interprofessional education (IPE) opportunities.
Campbell University is in the early stages of developing a formal IPE program with the goal of ultimately improving patient care though interprofessional practice. This goal will be accomplished through multiple programs that aim to develop the Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice identified and published by the Interprofessional Education Collaborative.
“Interprofessional education occurs when students of two or more professions learn about, from, and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes.”
