    Charleston Trip

    details

The School of Education announces its 2nd Annual Charleston Promise Neighborhood field experience trip.  This field experiencet is one modeled from a similar project in New York called, the Harlem Children’s Zone.  The project is designed to create a seamless continuum of wrap-around prenatal-to-college services with the school serving as the hub for all essential services. Through collaborative, multi-year funding support from the cities of Charleston, North Charleston, Charleston County, the Charleston County School District, and philanthropic investors, have formed the first comprehensive public/private partnership focused on improving parenting, education, employment, housing, healthcare and community revitalization in the 5.6 square mile area of Charleston County, South Carolina that straddles portions of the cities of Charleston and North Charleston.
Through this trip, Campbell students will obtain a better understanding of the many issues facing public schools and the under achieving students in their midst. The Campbell students will gain greater insight into the interactions schools and teachers must have with parents, extended family members and community partners. The trip will better prepare our students for the real world, public school experiences they will face.  In addition, students from Social Work will examine ways in which their future career can impact this model.
The trip is planned for October 22-25, 2014.  The intended audience within the School of Education’s Professional Education and Social Work Departments are current juniors and seniors with at least a 2.5 GPA.  For applications visit http://www.cusoeprofessionaleducation.org/charleston-promise-neighborhood-field-experience.html  or for more information contact Drs. Dennis or Godwin in the School of Education.
