BUIES CREEK -- Because of the threat of wintry weather, the Campbell University Department of Religion and Philosophy's Annual Lecture featuring Duke University Professor of Christian History Grant Wacker has been postponed until Thursday, Feb. 20.
Originally scheduled for Feb. 11, the lecture will now begin at 7 p.m. on Feb. 20, and be held in Butler Chapel. It's open to the public.
Wacker’s current research focuses on the influence of Billy Graham on U.S. religious culture. He’s working on a book about Graham entitled “Billy Graham and the Shaping of Modern America,” which Harvard University Press will publish.
Wacker is also the author or co-editor of at least seven other books, most recently “Religion in American Life: A Short History,” which the Oxford University Press published in 2011.
He received his undergraduate degree in philosophy from Stanford University and his Ph.D. in religion from Harvard University. He joined Duke in 1992 after serving as associate professor of religious studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Wacker is also the immediate past-president of the American Society of Church History; a former senior editor of Church History: Studies in Christianity and Culture, a quarterly journal; and a member of Orange United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill, N.C.
