To me, Martha’s Vineyard has become a land of opportunity. I came up here for my internship at Vineyard Golf Club. In the future, I would eventually like to go into merchandising in the golf business, so I figured that gaining some background in retail would be helpful.

Earlier I mentioned that PGA Golf Management students are required to do internships. For my three-month internship, I chose the Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown, Massachusetts as my destination. Edgartown is on the island of Martha’s Vineyard.

I always knew that I wanted to study abroad because of my love for travel. In January of this year, I started meeting with Kendra Erickson, the Study Abroad coordinator at Campbell University. She helped me decide what I would like to study, and I determined it would be Spanish because I thought the best way to learn the language would be through immersion.

Beginning college can be scary for most students. The second your parents finish moving in your things and give you the pep talk for college, you become a young adult. There are multiple movies that advertise the college life, but many of them skip the reality of college.

Throughout my childhood, I loved talking, listening, and reading about politics. I enjoyed all of my political science classes in high school. When I came to Campbell, my passion for political science grew even more. I initially wanted to be an attorney, but I made the decision towards the end of my sophomore year to pursue a career in public policy.

As my freshman year of college comes to an end, I am able to reflect on how this year has changed my life. The best way for me to gauge my progress is to share why I chose Campbell in the first place.
